World Cup 2022: Jubilant England fans celebrate after victory against Wales

Argentina play Poland in both teams’ final Group C match of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar tonight.

Poland comes into this match at the top of Group C with four points, after drawing 0-0 with Mexico in the tournament opener, before beating Saudi Arabia 2-0, with Robert Lewandowski scoring his first goal in a World Cup of the world.

Meanwhile, Argentina started their campaign with a shock 2-1 loss to the Saudis, before rebounding with a 2-0 win over Mexico – with captain Lionel Messi scoring once in each game – to put them them at three points.

Neither Poland nor Argentina are guaranteed a place in the round of 16, but a victory for either would guarantee a place in the round of 16 – unless Argentina wins and Saudi Arabia beats Mexico by a bigger score. A draw would also qualify both teams if the Saudis draw with Mexico.

Here are some examples of Karl MatchettPlayer ratings:

“Mat Ryan, 8. Two great saves in the first half were disjointed and unorthodox but effective. Very calm claiming high balls.

“Harry Souttar, 8. The best Socceroo in the tournament so far, hands down. He didn’t need to be as relentlessly powerful as he was against Tunisia, but he still made some big challenges.”

🇧🇷Andreas Christensen, 6. Had to do a lot more for the goal. He didn’t squeeze the man, he didn’t close the angle of the run and he didn’t block the shot. Good in possession and in the air, but given the bare minimum required on defense for the rest of the game, this was the big he needed to hit.

“Christian Eriksen, 5. Very quiet. Poor set-piece delivery for much of the game, never had many shot chances and didn’t get many glimpses of his passing quality in the final third either.
