O FIFA World Cup 2022 continued on Tuesday with Group B in the spotlight. The United States (1-2-0) beat Iran (1-0-2) by 1-0 at Al Thumama Stadium, in Doha. The USA will play the Netherlands in the Round of 16; Iran was eliminated as a result.

The young American put his head on the ball, but Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand had no trouble controlling it.

With Iran pressing, Tim Ream stepped up and got the ball out of a dangerous position.

Tim Weah had a great look in front of goal but didn’t wait for him to settle down. That might as well have been the Americans’ first.

38′ – Pulisic makes the comeback

Pulisic needed a minute to recover after colliding with Beiranvand.

45′ – Weah’s dismissed

Weah nearly scored a double, but the side referee called his goal offside.

Range: USA 1, Iran 0

The United States dominated possession in the first half, winning the battle for possession 61% to 39%. It also defeated Iran 9-0 in the first 45 minutes.

46′ – Pulisic replaces Aaronson

Pulisic finished the first half but was unable to continue in the second half. Aaronson will play left winger in his place.

47′ – Sergeant forces save

Josh Sargent opened the second half for the United States with a shot on target. The US clearly does not plan to play conservatively, even with the precious lead.

Iran increased the pressure in the second half, but the US maintains a goal lead.

Gregg Berhalter replaced two defenders – Walker Zimmerman and Shaq Moore – in an effort to maintain the lead.

The United States needs a win to advance to the knockout stages of the tournament – anything less would result in elimination. Meanwhile, Iran just need a draw and England to beat Wales to secure their place in the next round.
